Beacon Intelligence has launched Beacon CVRM, a new intelligence dataset designed to give drug developers a complete view of the rapidly evolving cardiovascular, renal and metabolic drug development landscape.
Beacon CVRM brings together preclinical and clinical drug and trial intelligence across cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic liver disease, and renal diseases, including chronic kidney disease.
Its launch comes as the boundaries between cardiovascular, renal and metabolic drug development continue to shift. Rather than treating these as separate disease areas, developers are increasingly looking at interconnected conditions, shared biological pathways and treatments capable of delivering benefits across multiple organs and indications.
This convergence is creating significant opportunities for drug developers, but it is also making an already complex landscape more difficult to navigate.
Connecting the CVRM Development Landscape
The Beacon CVRM platform has been developed to address that challenge by bringing fragmented drug development intelligence into a single, purpose-built platform, allowing R&D and strategy teams to follow programmes from early preclinical research through to late-stage clinical development.
Alongside clinical development data, Beacon CVRM provides detailed preclinical intelligence covering experimental models and assays, dosing and pharmacokinetic data, safety, toxicity and efficacy studies, together with links to preclinical references.
Users can also interrogate the landscape using Beacon’s specialist ontologies and search filters, including formulation and delivery device, drug target, therapeutic class, CMC, sequence and mutation, biomarkers and disease indications.
At the clinical stage, the platform provides intelligence on trial enrolment and locations, inclusion and exclusion criteria including co-morbidities, dosing frequency, toxicity and efficacy, as well as body composition and weight-loss results.
The level of detail is intended to allow teams to move beyond simply identifying which drugs and trials exist and instead understand how competing programmes are being developed.
For early-stage research, this can include comparing preclinical models, targets and technologies. For clinical teams, it can mean benchmarking trial design and patient selection against competing programmes.
Charlotte Abraham, Lead Research Analyst for Beacon CVRM, said: “CVRM is becoming an increasingly connected development landscape. Teams are no longer looking at cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases entirely in isolation, and that creates a much bigger intelligence challenge. We built Beacon CVRM to make it easier for drug developers to see those connections, understand how programmes are evolving from preclinical research through the clinic, and get to the information they need to make confident development decisions more quickly.”
Built for a Rapidly Evolving CVRM Market
The launch reflects the pace of change across the CVRM market. As pipelines expand and new approaches emerge, developers increasingly need to understand not only direct competitors within an individual indication, but how programmes elsewhere in the CVRM ecosystem could affect their own development strategy.
Beacon CVRM has been designed around this changing environment, with data structured and curated specifically for CVRM drug development rather than drawn from a general-purpose life sciences database.
The platform covers cardiovascular diseases including hypertension, heart disease and stroke, as well as type 2 diabetes, metabolic liver disease, obesity, renal diseases including chronic and metabolic kidney disease, and obstructive sleep apnoea. It also includes preclinical experimental data such as cell line and animal model data.
Beacon Intelligence is already used by 24 of the world’s top 25 drug developers. Its wider database combines curated preclinical and clinical data with specialist therapeutic and modality intelligence to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies make faster and better drug development decisions.
Beacon CVRM extends that approach into one of the industry’s fastest-moving areas, giving teams a single source through which to analyse drugs and trials from preclinical research through to late-stage clinical development.
